Teacher Battling Cancer Spots Entire School Outside Hospital, Then Hears The Music Start
Just when you needed confirmation that everyone one the planet was not a complete jerk, we found a video that will uplift you and make you proud to part of the human family.
Recently, the entire student body of a Tennessee high school arrived at the home of one of their teachers who has been battling cancer, and what they proceeded to do will really lift your spirit.
Students from Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville paid a visit to the home of Latin teacher Ben Ellis.
Ellis has been fighting cancer for some time and his students and fellow faculty wanted to show him that they were standing by his side during the battle. So the entire student body, over four hundred students, gathered outside his home and began to sing songs of worship.
The moving video was found by country music star Tim McGraw on Facebook and has gone viral, with more than sixteen million views. It has also received more than six hundred thousand likes.
In it, Ellis is seen watching from his second story window as the high school kids gather in his yard and start to sing. At times he even joins in with the chorus of voices.
Speaking of the display of support for the beloved teacher, one of his peers, Leslie Ponder said it was “spur of the moment,’ noting some students were in the middle of class and tests, when they ‘dropped everything for a bigger lesson on life, love, community and compassion,’ and were bused over to Ellis’ home.
McGraw’s Facebook comment tells the story simply enough,
“A friend sent this to me today. Ben Ellis is a Nashville area high school teacher battling cancer. The entire student body (400+ students plus HS faculty) drove to his house to worship with him. Our thoughts and Prayers are with him and his family….. So precious and kind.”
Additionally, a woman identified as Shannon Seibert, a parent of students at the school wrote on her social media “He is the definition of a teacher, a role model, a servant. He wrote the kids a letter telling them he is even more certain now that God is Good and with us.”
Seibert also shared portions of a letter from the principal directed at parents concerning the event:
“Over the course of last night and into this morning, three separate and unrelated people approached me saying that while praying they received a vision of the high school students and faculty singing praises on the front lawn of the home of Ben Ellis, our Latin teacher who is battling cancer and who loves a good hymn sing. So, we loaded the buses and cars and went. It was a powerful and moving outpouring of love that our students were able to bestow upon a man who loves us well. We returned to campus and went straight into chapel, where we prayed and praised God. It was broken and beautiful.”
Ellis’ father Robert thanked McGraw on Facebook for sharing the the clip, saying “Thank you, Tim. Ben is my son. Through his ministry and teaching, he has positively touched countless hundreds of lives directly and many thousands indirectly. He, his wife and children are a beautiful family.”
