High school students were goofing around on the last day of school and one began challenging teachers to a dance battle. They probably never expected his reaction. And he probably never expected that someone was filming.

A video from the Whitney M. Young High School in Chicago has gone viral after an English teacher accepted a dance challenge from one of his students. The kids formed a big circle in the hallway and began making their own beat by pounding on desks and stomping on the floor.

A student ran up to teachers and danced in front of them. Most just applauded. Then the dancing student came up to the English teacher.

In his neatly pressed white shirt and tie, the teacher immediately responded to the challenge with what looked like a jig. It does seem that there were some Irish dancing lessons in the teacher’s past. Either that or he’s seen ‘Riverdance’ way too many times.

Impressed students cheered for the teacher, identified as John Fanning. After the video went viral, Fanning was interviewed on ‘Good Morning America’ about his impromptu performance.

“Like every other kid who grew up in Rogers Park in the ‘70s and ‘80s, I went to dance classes after church,” Fanning says about how he learned his moves.

It’s great to see teachers and students smiling and having a moment of fun together at school. The video has been viewed nearly 4 million times.
