Man Who Shot And Killed Beloved Police Dog Jethro, Finally Sentenced, JUSTICE Has Been Served!

Justice has finally been served for beloved police dog, Jethro.

Back in January of 2016, Kelonte Barefield shot and killed Jethro as he was responding to a burglary at a grocery store with the Canton Police Department.

Jethro, along with his human partner, Officer Ryan Davis, were investigating a break-in at a Canton, OH, grocery store when Barefield shot and killed Jethro in the line of duty.

The funeral to honor the dedicated K-9 officer, who gave his life for his job, was attended by hundreds of mourners. Jethro had been with Davis since he was an 8-week-old puppy and his death, at only 3-years-old, left Davis heartbroken.

But justice has finally been served. Now, seven months after Jethro’s death, Kelonte Barefield has been sentenced to 45 years in jail.

After pleading guilty to many charges, which included an unrelated robbery, Barefield was given the maximum sentence of six years, which was included in the full sentence of 45 years that he received, for killing Jethro.

Since the outcry related to Jethro’s death, Officer Eric Stanbro, who runs the Canton K-9 unit, has received over 2,000 letters. Currently, the Ohio state legislature is working on increasing sentences for people that kill K-9 officers.

If you’re happy to see that Jethro got the justice that he deserved, you’ll be happy to hear that one little girl who heard about Jethro’s death, donated all of her allowance money upon hearing of Jethro’s death, with the hope that the money could be spent on getting bulletproof vests for K-9 officers!
