A family in Lauderdale, Florida has been left completely shattered in the wake of the death of an 11-month-old child, and the death itself was completely avoidable. As CBS Miami reports, the child was left unattended in the family’s vehicle for at least an hour.

“A family consisting of two adult and five children ranging from the ages of 11 months old all the way to 14 years of age, were in the process of returning home from the local grocery store and were unloading groceries into the house,” said Lt. Gregory Solowsky with the Lauderhill Police Dept.

Once they realized the horrible mistake, they rushed to the vehicle and began performing CPR on the unresponsive child, but it was too late at that point. The child was rushed to the nearby hospital and pronounced dead. No word on whether charges will be filed against the parents.

“The family is very, very upset. The entire family. The children, the parents. But they are cooperating with us and at this point it looks like it’s going to be a very, very tragic accident,” Solowsky continued.
