ENORMOUS MILITARY HANGAR TO BE DEMOLISHED – THEY TURNED IT INTO TROPICAL PARADISE INSTEAD (VIDEO)
Tropical Islands Resorts is a lush paradise full of greenery, fine dining restaurants, spas and luxurious swimming pools. Walking down the paths lined with tropical blooms and colorful peacocks, you might find it hard to believe that you’re in an old army hangar in Germany.
Brandenburg, just outside of Berlin, is the last place you’d expect to find a tropical resort. Even in the summertime, temperatures rarely make it into the 70s. You would never expect the large, gray, industrial-looking Army dome to house such a balmy oasis.
The vacation company bought the hangar, which is 1,200 feet long and 700 feet wide, years after it had been retired. Inside, they built a whole new world in temperatures kept at a steady 78 degrees. With a man-made rain forest, lagoon and stunning wildlife, the paradise rivals any island vacation spot you can imagine.
The creative renovation could potentially transform the vacation industry. Instead of traveling thousands of miles to reach tropical destinations, cities in climates all over the world can build and maintain their own little hot spot. This would help fulfill the vacation dreams of locals who might not otherwise be able to make a long trek to the real tropics.
