BOY PICTURED SALUTING A CASKET – HIS STORY IS GOING VIRAL
Joseph Lemm lost his life while serving his country in Afghanistan due to a suicide bomber, and the former Detective with the New York Police Department was remembered in a stirring funeral that was attended by thousands. As the Daily News reports, one of the lasting images from the scene was the heartbreaking sight of his young son saluting his father’s casket.
“Today we say farewell to a hero of our time, and a hero for all ages, a patriot who centered his life on protecting others. The basic foundation of freedom is freedom from fear. That foundation is laid by people like Joe, one of too few who have been asked to do so much, for so many, for so long,” said police commissioner William Bratton.
Suicide bombers took the life of Lemm and five fellow soldiers. He’s survived by his wife, daughter and four-year-old son.
“He was a hero when his city and his country needed one, an unceasing guardian at the gate. And now, a guardian at the gates of heaven,” Bratton continued.
